OUR METHODOLOGY

The 5-Phase Opening System

1

Cover Removal & Prep

  • Pump & Clean Cover: Pump off accumulated rainwater and remove debris/leaves to prevent them falling in.
  • Cover Deep Clean: Power-wash and scrub with a specialized cleaner to prevent mold and mildew growth.
  • Storage Prep: Dry, tightly fold, and store the cover in a heavy-duty, rodent-proof container.
2

Pool Shell & Deck Restoration

  • Re-install Deck Equipment: Re-attach handrails, ladders, diving boards, and skimmer baskets.
  • Skim & Net Surface: Remove any floating debris from the water surface.
  • Water Level Restoration: Raise the water level back to normal operating height using the homeowner's source.
3

Equipment & Plumbing Reassembly

  • Remove Winter Plugs: Pull out expansion plugs and gizmos from skimmers and return lines.
  • Re-install Drain Plugs: Replace plugs on the pump, filter, heater, and chlorinator.
  • Lubricate O-Rings: Inspect and lubricate seals with silicone-based lubricant to prevent air leaks.
  • Prime & Start Pump: Fill the pump basket, open lines, and prime the system safely.
4

System Diagnostic & Safety

Pressure: 10-15 PSI (Optimal)
  • Filter Check: Verify grids, cartridges, or sand filters are clean under normal pressure. Verified
  • Leaking Check: Run system 30 mins to check plumbing joints for winter freeze cracks. Verified
  • Heater & Automation Test: Cycle electrical components and control valves to ensure survival. Verified
5

Water Chemistry & Startup Shock

  • Initial Chemical Test: Baseline test for pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, and stabilizer.
  • Heavy Shock Treatment: Heavy dose of liquid chlorine to destroy residual winter bacteria.
  • Algaecide & Clarifier: Preventative dose to help the filter catch fine particles fast.

The Hidden Costs of DIY

Don't Risk Your Summer

Many homeowners underestimate the technical precision required for a proper spring opening. A simple oversight during the process can lead to costly repairs, burnt equipment, and weeks of missed swimming time.

Hidden Plumbing Leaks

Improperly removing winter plugs or failing to lubricate O-rings can cause hidden, catastrophic pressure leaks when the system restarts.

Burnt-Out Pump Motors

Starting the system dry without properly bleeding air and priming the lines will quickly destroy your expensive pool pump motor.

Persistent Algae Blooms

Incorrect chemical balancing and insufficient initial shock leaves dormant algae spores alive, turning your pool into a cloudy green mess.

CLEARING THE WATER

Common Questions

We want your spring opening to be completely stress-free. Here are the answers to the most common questions our local clients ask before we arrive. If you have a specific concern not listed here, our team is ready to help.

Do I need to be home?

No, you do not need to be home as long as we have access to the pool area, the water source is turned on, and all necessary equipment (plugs, baskets, returns) is left outside for our technicians.

What if my cover is damaged?

If we notice significant tears or structural damage during the removal phase, we will document it, fold it securely for storage, and notify you immediately so you can arrange for a replacement before the next winterization.

How long until kids can swim?

We strongly recommend waiting 24 to 48 hours after our heavy startup shock treatment. This allows the chemicals to circulate fully and ensures the chlorine levels drop back down to a safe, swimmable range.

Do you provide the chemicals?

Yes, our opening package includes the initial heavy shock, a preventative dose of wide-spectrum algaecide, and a clarifier to kickstart your system and help the filter catch fine particles fast.
